About Michael

Michael McCraw, Founder & CEO of McCrawAI

Michael graduated high school at 16 and founded McCrawAI right after, in 2022, around a simple idea: businesses that do excellent work deserve to have that work seen.

McCrawAI works mainly with contractors in construction, remodeling and home services, turning footage from real jobs into edited short videos and posts, so a contractor's craftsmanship can help win customers.

His approach pairs AI-assisted systems with human judgment: AI adds speed and scale, and people make the decisions.

He lives in Longmont, Colorado, and McCrawAI works with contractors across Colorado, including Denver, the Front Range and Boulder County.

Where I come from

My mom, Angela McCraw-Hester, was always there for me, until she couldn't be. When I was 10, she was arrested, and she's been in prison ever since.

I'd been moving from house to house and school to school my whole life, and after that I did it in foster care, with strangers. I never stayed in one school more than a year.

I was always the new kid, sometimes the kid with long hair, and I got bullied for it. I never cared much about fitting in anyway. I always wanted to do my own thing.

Moving that much taught me something I still use every day: how to connect with people fast, care about them, and still let them go.

I was adopted, and at 16 my adoptive parents kicked me out. I moved in with my grandma, God bless her heart, and I was ready to drop out of school.

Instead I got the chance to work at my own pace, and I finished two and a half years of high school in two months.

That's when I found Christ, and when I started thinking like an owner. I'd tell my grandma, "When I'm rich..." and she'd say, "If." I'd tell her she was wrong. She drove me to work every single day anyway.

I started six businesses before this one worked: photography, modeling, clothing, videography, editing. None of them made it. All of them taught me to get back up.

Then I got into door-to-door sales, and it changed how I see everything. I'd never buy from someone at my door, but people did every day. Sales is life. There's always opportunity.

Protect your attitude, reset after every no, and always point people to the bigger opportunity. I tell every entrepreneur I meet to start in door-to-door.

In 2022 I started McCrawAI. Our standard is "Legacy Intelligence. A Higher Standard." The legacy I inherited was a hard one. The legacy I'm building is for my brother, my sister and her new son, my future kids, and their kids.

I want the McCraw name to mean something ten generations from now. And I want to help every business owner we work with build something that outlasts them too.

I'll say it plainly: my mom is a murderer. When I tell people that, they usually do one of three things. They don't care. They get scared of me. Or they assume I'll turn out like her.

McCrawAI is my proof that I never will. And it's proof that anyone with a past can build anything and reshape their future.

Kids who grow up like I did get overlooked. In one long-running study of youth aging out of foster care, 31–46% had been homeless at least once by age 26. (Source: Midwest Evaluation of the Adult Functioning of Former Foster Youth, Chapin Hall)

Long term, I want to help kids in the foster care system reach the goals they deserve. And someday, I want to support or build a better foster care system, one that gives opportunity to the kids who always get overlooked.

I'm not sharing this for sympathy. Where you start doesn't decide where you finish, and I'd rather you hear it from me.

Legacy Intelligence. A Higher Standard.

Michael built McCrawAI around one standard: McCrawAI builds brands that outlast their founders, through strategy first and a higher standard in everything we put out.

  • Legacy. We build brands meant to last and be handed down, not chase this month's trend. Every plan asks what this business will be known for in 10 years.
  • Intelligence. Strategy comes before content. We use data, AI and real consulting to decide what to make, who it's for and why. That's the difference between a consulting firm and a video shop.
  • A Higher Standard. We hold the client and ourselves to it: honest claims, real results, clear pricing, check-ins at 30, 60, 90 and 120 days, and clients who show up and do the work.

What Michael focuses on at McCrawAI

  • Contractors across Colorado. Owner-operated construction, remodeling and home-service businesses, from Longmont and Boulder County to Denver and the rest of the Front Range, whose work deserves to be seen. See content for contractors.
  • Local entertainment. Studios, producers, artists and creators in Colorado.
  • Content systems. A repeatable way to capture, edit, approve and publish, so content doesn't depend on a spare afternoon. He writes about it in McCrawAI Insights.
